How are negative campaigns against Bollywood and artists being spread through YouTube?
India's major film industry Bollywood hits and flops, happiness and fear, praise and ridicule. But there are some issues that Bollywood actors do not pay much attention to.
Especially in recent times, there has been a negative campaign against Bollywood and artists through the internet. People who have earned millions of followers on social media are instructed to use abusive language against Bollywood actors, spread false news and harm their personal lives. And, they get paid to do this kind of propaganda.
YouTube has been hailed as one of the biggest weapons used to spread rumors against Bollywood. The people who are pushing such a campaign are right-wingers. According to a BBC investigation, such individuals are rejoicing in talks with members of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the ruling party in India. He was also invited to a virtual meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Bollywood actors have admitted that the misinformation spread through online media has affected their lives and no effort has been made to stop such things.
In a recent video made by YouTuber Sandeep Burma, he claimed that there was corruption in the investigation into the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. He has made a video saying that AIIMS Hospital has rigged the investigation of Sushant's death.
In an interview with the BBC, Sandeep claimed that he had proof of this. But he declined to give any evidence of the arguments presented in the video. Instead, Sandeep threatened to take action against the BBC correspondent.
The BBC has also used the YouTube channel to accuse Bollywood actors, directors, and producers of being anti-national and anti-Hindu. The actors have been accused of making drugs, prostitution, and child pornography videos without any evidence.
Such people have been asking for money from many people to earn money. In addition to the chat feature on YouTube, they also sell videos from paid membership to raise money.
Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar told the BBC: "Such videos on YouTube have changed the way people think about me. Falsehoods about me are starting to take place in people's minds more than in my work. This is having a direct effect on my work. Bollywood workers have stopped giving me work for fear of controversy when they take me. People of different brands are also afraid of me. '
Swara further said, "Why don't the stars want to talk about the increase in the share of petrol now like in 2011, 12, 13 years?" Even when they are directly targeted in any subject, they do not say anything. But we don't know why this happened. Fear has worked in such a situation. Bollywood is under constant attack. This is a planned agenda. This is the plan of some people who are trying to manipulate Bollywood. '
Such false news has seriously affected the safety of Bollywood workers. Journalist Shrimi Burma said, "When Padmavat was ready for release, rumors were spread in the film that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh were kissing. Due to these rumors, some organizations had vandalized the set of the film and slapped director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Similarly, actress Deepika Padukone was even threatened to cut her nose.
Before the release of a movie in Bollywood, producers and actors have to think many times about post-production. Producers have to think about the objectionable facts in the film. But the BBC has noted that this should not be the case.
Journalist Shrimi further said, "There is a need for unity among Bollywood workers. They need to talk to the parliamentarians and push for a new law. We need to talk about curbing misinformation rather than freedom of expression. "
There are more than 450 million YouTube users in India. However, this number is 2 billion worldwide. Even YouTube has given such people the right to monetize easily. They can also easily earn through chat. Such people are spreading dangerous propaganda and selling such content through their channels.
YouTube has also given 'verified badges' to people who spread such false news. Due to this, they have been able to maintain the trust of the audience.
