Summary
We are looking for someone passionate about air quality management, and with proven skills in air quality monitoring. We are looking to hire an Air Pollution Measurement Associate to assist senior scientists in the operation and maintenance of trace gas measurement instruments, testing and installation, observatory development, and fieldwork. The associate will also support capacity-building training, data visualization and backup, and linking atmospheric data to ICIMOD’s Regional Database System.

As ICIMOD moves into its new Strategy 2030 period from 2023, one of the impact areas we have identified is working to reduce adverse health impacts of poor air quality while achieving mitigation co-benefits.
About ICIMOD
We are ICIMOD – a unique regional intergovernmental learning and knowledge center based in Nepal. We work on behalf of the people of the HKH and our eight Regional Member Countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan.
We aim to influence policy and practices to help the governments and communities of the HKH meet the region’s complex and increasing climate and environmental challenges while encouraging regional cooperation and collaboration for more sustainable mountain development.
We are currently in the last year of our Medium-Term Action Plan (MTAP-IV) programming period (2018–2022). Given rapidly changing development scenarios, we have recently formulated a new Strategy 2030: Moving Mountains, where we have committed to helping build a greener, more inclusive, climate-resilient HKH and are eager to engage talented new colleagues from across the region and the world.
Responsibilities and task
Under the direct supervision of the Water and Air Theme Leader and the general guidance of the Atmosphere Regional Programme Manager, the Air Pollution Measurement Associate will fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:
Operate, maintain, and calibrate trace gases instruments
Support data analysis and visualization
Prepare tables on data available from each observatory
Upload data to Regional Database System
Assist in the establishment and maintenance of new air quality monitoring stations
Support in evaluating satellite- and model-derived data with in situ observations using simple models and analysis tools
Support air quality dashboard with data acquisition-related activities
Support in the writing of assessment reports, project reports, proposals, and other documents
Support in capacity-building training and stakeholder engagement and outreach activities
Support in building partnerships at local and regional scales
Work as a team player within ICIMOD to support other activities and promote institutional goals
Minimum Qualifications
A postgraduate degree in atmospheric science or related subjects with at least one year of relevant work experience is required. A first-level university degree in combination with three years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead of an advanced university degree.
Familiarity with existing literature or databases on atmospheric measurements
Proficiency in data visualization and analysis
Understanding of basic instrument operation
Excellent writing and communication skills
Basic knowledge of computer languages/programs
