6 reasons, which can cause depression in children
Many people think that only adults and elderly people get depression, children do not have any kind of stress and are of a happy age so there is no risk of it. Because of this, the debate about depression management is also based on adults and the elderly age group.
But there are various reasons that can cause depression in children as well. Out of which five reasons are discussed here.
Hereditary
Children may be prone to depression due to genetics. If one of the parents has depression, the child can also have it. This is called biological depression.
Family environment
Another reason that can cause depression in children is the family environment. If there are daily fights between the parents, if the parents are abroad for a long time and if the child is studying in a hostel in Nepal or staying with a relative, the child may suffer from depression.
Similarly, children who are growing up in a stress-free environment such as fathers drinking alcohol and beating their mothers, fathers not taking responsibility for the house, and not giving time to their children, can become victims of depression directly or indirectly.
In this case, they first experience stress and as stress turns into anger, their behavior also begins to change. For example, there may be problems such as being confused, shaking, talking loudly, not listening to what is said, and not being able to pay attention to studies.
Divorce of parents
Divorce cases are increasing in recent times. It affects children directly and indirectly. Before the divorce, children get depressed after seeing the fight between their parents. After a divorce, children do not know who to live with. Because if they live with their mother, they do not get their father's love, but if they live with their father, they are separated from their mother's love. If the child doesn't get the love of their parents at the same time according to their wishes and seeing their friends' families get together, they may gradually become depressed.
Environmental impact
Many people may think that depression is also caused by environmental factors. But depression can also occur in children due to environmental factors.
For example, if a child has to go from Bhaktapur to Kalanki to study, they are tired of a long journey, crowded, noisy, having to stand without a seat in the bus, foggy, sleepless to reach the time, they may feel hopeless and tired. In this case, they may think that the environment is natural. And, daily running at a young age can lead to depression.
Random drug use
Any child who is randomly taking medication at a young age may be at risk of depression. Nowadays, there is an increase in the practice of giving medicine without scientific basis without testing to make your children better than others in order to increase their height, if they are obese, then increase their weight if they are underweight. Not only that, antibiotics are given indiscriminately even for common pain, it can also cause depression in children.
Discriminatory environment at school
If there is a discriminatory environment in the school, mental problems may appear in the child. For example, in most schools there is a practice of teaching students who get good marks in one section and those who are weak in studies are taught separately. Praising those who do well in studies and pushing, teasing and putting pressure on those who do poorly to get good grades, they feel inferior, consider themselves weak, and gradually suffer from mental problems, which makes them unable to develop their personality.
Sexual abuse
Children who have been sexually abused at a young age can also become depressed. Sexual abuse is being done by relatives or strangers but they are not able to tell. When they try to say, they may be bullied, which leads them to keep the matter hidden inside and may lead to depression.
How to manage?
It is very important to communicate with children to prevent depression. It is important to try to understand their thoughts, spend time with them, ask them about their wishes and support them in their good work.
You should understand the school environment with your children and you should also be aware of the school from time to time. They should be made to get used to physical activities, play sports in the open environment, arrange eight hours of sleep and eat nutritious food.
